Welcome to the homepage of the "DBChess font" package!

You probably arrived here by following a link like this

on a page that has something to do with chess in general. This little symbol tries to tell you that the HTML document you were looking at uses a special TrueType font called "DBChess" for displaying figurine and ``Informator'' symbols. In order to see these symbols you have to download and install this font.

This has to be done only once and takes the following steps:

  1. Download the "DBChess" package
  2. UnZIP the archive `dbchess.zip' (contains the directory `dbchess'). Under Windows you should use an extracting program like WinZip or Zip'N'All that supports long file names. You can also check out the list of Freeware Zip progs if you like.
  3. In the created directory `dbchess' you can find the TrueType and Type1 font files in normal (`dbchessn.*') and bold (`dbchessb.*) face. Install them on your computer, taking the necessary steps according to your operating system, font server and their versions. Under Unix/Linux you probably need "root" access, i.e. administrator permissions, to do this and a reboot or re-login might also be required.

And that's it! Now you can go back to the "chess" page and look at it in all its glory.

Please regard: The symbols may appear somewhat "scrambled" on the screen, depending on the font size you currently selected in your browser. This is due to the fact that a lower resolution (72dpi) than for printing (300dpi or higher) is used. Thus, if you can't tell one symbol from the other, upscaling the default font of the browser should help. For printing the HTML page this step is not necessary.

Further informations about the font and its installation can be found in the manual of ChessTask.
